Warehouse Equipment for Asheville, NC

Asheville sits where I-40 meets I-26, with I-240 looping through town. Terrain is the constraint here more than highways.

We handle the whole job rather than just selling the steel. Design, permitting, material, installation and, when the time comes, relocation. Stein is a licensed general contractor, so one company carries the project from the drawing through the final inspection.

Where We Work

Where the Warehouses Are in Asheville, NC

Most of the metro's larger industrial space sits outside Asheville itself.

Enka and Candler

West of town in Buncombe County. Enka Commerce Park is the metro's main Class A industrial park, built on about 200 acres of the former American Enka site, with new access roads and buildings opened in 2025.

The airport corridor

South toward Fletcher and Mills River in Henderson County. Ferncliff Industrial Park is out there, with Sierra Nevada Brewing and FedEx among the tenants.

Inside the city

Older industrial and flex space, mostly along the river bottoms. Some of it flooded during Helene, which still shapes what tenants will put at floor level.

Permitting

Permits in Buncombe County

Inside Asheville, building permits come from the City of Asheville Development Services Department, and the Asheville Fire Department's Fire Marshals Division handles fire prevention permits and commercial inspections.

Outside the city, Buncombe County Permits and Inspections handles building, and the Buncombe County Fire Marshal's Office covers fire and life safety inspections everywhere in the county except inside Asheville, Weaverville and Black Mountain city limits.

Watch the county line closely on this one. Enka and Candler are Buncombe County. Fletcher and Mills River, where a good deal of the airport-area space is, are Henderson County and a different authority again.

Under the International Fire Code you need a permit once a building holds more than 500 square feet of high-piled combustible storage, and high-piled means the top of the load sits above 12 feet. That covers most pallet rack projects. The code itself is the same in every jurisdiction, but the forms you file and the reviewer who reads them change from one county to the next.

  • Storage with the top of the load above 12 feet, whether rack, shelving or floor-stacked piles
  • More than 500 square feet of high-piled storage area
  • Combustible commodities, counting the carton and the wood pallet, not just the product
  • A new tenant or a change of use in an existing building

Asheville tiers its commercial review by project size, so where your job lands in that order affects the schedule. Get the walkthrough before the anchors go in, while changes are still cheap. How our permitting process works

Used Equipment

We Buy and Sell Used Rack Too

Not every job needs new steel. We keep a used yard in Charlotte and sell out of it across the country, usually at a third to half off new. Kyle Austin runs that side and can tell you what is on the ground today.

It works the other way as well. If you are closing a Asheville warehouse, relocating, or clearing out rack you no longer need, we buy it. Small quantities and large ones, and our crew does the removal.

Buy Used Rack

Beams, uprights and wire decks out of our own yard, inspected before they ship. Used pallet rack in Asheville

Sell Us Your Rack

We buy rack in every style, and we take small and large quantities. Send Kyle the type, the sizes and a rough count and he will come back with a number. Sell us your pallet rack
