The Savannah River near Augusta, Georgia

Warehouse Equipment for Augusta, GA

Augusta sits on I-20 between Atlanta and Columbia, with I-520 as the local loop. CSX and Norfolk Southern both run classification yards here. The nearest deepwater port is Savannah, about two and a half hours away.

We handle the whole job rather than just selling the steel. Design, permitting, material, installation and, when the time comes, relocation. Stein is a licensed general contractor, so one company carries the project from the drawing through the final inspection.

Permitting

Permits in Augusta-Richmond County

Augusta runs a consolidated city-county government, so there is no separate county building department to sort out. The Augusta Planning and Development Department handles building permits for both the city and the unincorporated county.

Fire review comes from the Augusta-Richmond County Fire Department's Office of Community Risk Reduction. It reviews construction, fire alarm, sprinkler and suppression plans, issues the permit once review clears, and issues the certificate of occupancy after inspections pass.

Because one government covers the whole county, Augusta avoids the city-versus-county confusion that comes up in most of the markets we work in.

Under the International Fire Code you need a permit once a building holds more than 500 square feet of high-piled combustible storage, and high-piled means the top of the load sits above 12 feet. That covers most pallet rack projects. The code itself is the same in every jurisdiction, but the forms you file and the reviewer who reads them change from one county to the next.

  • Storage with the top of the load above 12 feet, whether rack, shelving or floor-stacked piles
  • More than 500 square feet of high-piled storage area
  • Combustible commodities, counting the carton and the wood pallet, not just the product
  • A new tenant or a change of use in an existing building

Submittal requirements do change, so we confirm the current package with both offices before drawings are made. Get the walkthrough before the anchors go in, while changes are still cheap. How our permitting process works

Used Equipment

We Buy and Sell Used Rack Too

Not every job needs new steel. We keep a used yard in Charlotte and sell out of it across the country, usually at a third to half off new. Kyle Austin runs that side and can tell you what is on the ground today.

It works the other way as well. If you are closing a Augusta warehouse, relocating, or clearing out rack you no longer need, we buy it. Small quantities and large ones, and our crew does the removal.
