Material Handling
Material Handling Supplier in Charleston, SC
Pallet rack, shelving, mezzanines and modular offices for Charleston warehouses. Designed, permitted, delivered and installed.
Warehouse Equipment for Charleston, SC
Charleston is a port-driven market. I-26 is the spine from the terminals northwest, I-526 loops the inner industrial areas, and I-95 is about forty-five minutes out.
We handle the whole job rather than just selling the steel. Design, permitting, material, installation and, when the time comes, relocation. Stein is a licensed general contractor, so one company carries the project from the drawing through the final inspection.

Where We Work
Where the Warehouses Are in Charleston, SC
Here is the part that catches people: most of the market's warehouse space is not in the City of Charleston at all.
Palmetto Commerce Park
In North Charleston, which is a separate city. This is the market's flagship park, with Boeing's South Carolina operations and the Mercedes-Benz Vans plant anchoring it.
The port terminals
South Carolina Ports runs Wando Welch in Mount Pleasant, which handles more than 80 percent of the port's container volume, plus the North Charleston Terminal and the Hugh K. Leatherman Terminal that opened in 2021.
Camp Hall and the I-26 corridor
Northwest toward Ridgeville in Berkeley County, anchored by the Volvo Cars campus.
Permitting
Permits around Charleston
Inside the City of Charleston, the Building Inspections Division and the Charleston Fire Department's Fire Marshal's Office both sit in the Permit Center on George Street. The fire marshal keeps a staffed station right there in the building.
The fire division assigns every plan set to one of five review levels when it comes in, each carrying its own projected review time, with the caveat that those times stretch as workload does.
North Charleston is a separate city with its own offices. Its Building Inspections department handles commercial plan review, and its Fire Inspection Bureau issues fire permits for new commercial buildings and up-fits. Since most of the market's warehouse space is in North Charleston or the surrounding counties, that is often the office that matters.
Under the International Fire Code you need a permit once a building holds more than 500 square feet of high-piled combustible storage, and high-piled means the top of the load sits above 12 feet. That covers most pallet rack projects. The code itself is the same in every jurisdiction, but the forms you file and the reviewer who reads them change from one county to the next.
- Storage with the top of the load above 12 feet, whether rack, shelving or floor-stacked piles
- More than 500 square feet of high-piled storage area
- Combustible commodities, counting the carton and the wood pallet, not just the product
- A new tenant or a change of use in an existing building
South Carolina adds a state step for sprinkler shop drawings, and the local authority has to verify the submittal before the state fire marshal treats it as received. Get the walkthrough before the anchors go in, while changes are still cheap. How our permitting process works
Used Equipment
We Buy and Sell Used Rack Too
Not every job needs new steel. We keep a used yard in Charlotte and sell out of it across the country, usually at a third to half off new. Kyle Austin runs that side and can tell you what is on the ground today.
It works the other way as well. If you are closing a Charleston warehouse, relocating, or clearing out rack you no longer need, we buy it. Small quantities and large ones, and our crew does the removal.
Buy Used Rack
Beams, uprights and wire decks out of our own yard, inspected before they ship. Used pallet rack in Charleston
Sell Us Your Rack
We buy rack in every style, and we take small and large quantities. Send Kyle the type, the sizes and a rough count and he will come back with a number. Sell us your pallet rack
