Warehouse Equipment for Raleigh, NC

Raleigh sits where I-40 crosses the I-440 Beltline and the I-540 outer loop, with I-87 now running east toward Rocky Mount.

We handle the whole job rather than just selling the steel. Design, permitting, material, installation and, when the time comes, relocation. Stein is a licensed general contractor, so one company carries the project from the drawing through the final inspection.

Where We Work

Where the Warehouses Are in Raleigh, NC

Raleigh's own city limits hold less big-box warehouse than people expect. Most of it sits in a ring of Wake County towns.

Garner and the White Oak area

Off I-40 south of town. Amazon's fulfillment center here runs about 2.6 million square feet and employs more than 3,000 people full time.

East Wake

Knightdale, Wendell and Zebulon, along I-87 and US 64. This is the Triangle's main large-format logistics growth corridor right now.

The I-540 ring

Newer flex and distribution space following the outer loop around the north side.

Permitting

Permits in Wake County

Raleigh keeps both halves in-house. Building permits come from the City of Raleigh Planning and Development Department, and fire review comes from the Raleigh Fire Department's Office of the Fire Marshal.

The order of operations is the part worth knowing. Raleigh runs a Site Permit Review that has to be approved by every applicable department and reach final review before you can even submit a non-residential building permit plan. Fire is one of the named reviewers in that process.

Outside the city line, Wake County Permits and Inspections handles building permits for unincorporated Wake, and by contract for Knightdale, Rolesville, Wendell and Zebulon. That covers a lot of where the new warehouse space actually is.

Under the International Fire Code you need a permit once a building holds more than 500 square feet of high-piled combustible storage, and high-piled means the top of the load sits above 12 feet. That covers most pallet rack projects. The code itself is the same in every jurisdiction, but the forms you file and the reviewer who reads them change from one county to the next.

  • Storage with the top of the load above 12 feet, whether rack, shelving or floor-stacked piles
  • More than 500 square feet of high-piled storage area
  • Combustible commodities, counting the carton and the wood pallet, not just the product
  • A new tenant or a change of use in an existing building

Start the permit conversation at the same time as the rack order. The two waits overlap instead of stacking. Get the walkthrough before the anchors go in, while changes are still cheap. How our permitting process works

Used Equipment

We Buy and Sell Used Rack Too

Not every job needs new steel. We keep a used yard in Charlotte and sell out of it across the country, usually at a third to half off new. Kyle Austin runs that side and can tell you what is on the ground today.

It works the other way as well. If you are closing a Raleigh warehouse, relocating, or clearing out rack you no longer need, we buy it. Small quantities and large ones, and our crew does the removal.

Sell Us Your Rack

We buy rack in every style, and we take small and large quantities. Send Kyle the type, the sizes and a rough count and he will come back with a number. Sell us your pallet rack
