Material Handling
Material Handling Supplier in Spartanburg, SC
Pallet rack, shelving, mezzanines and modular offices for Spartanburg warehouses. Designed, permitted, delivered and installed.
Warehouse Equipment for Spartanburg, SC
Spartanburg sits at the I-85 and I-26 crossing. I-85 is the Atlanta to Charlotte manufacturing spine, and I-26 runs southeast straight to the Port of Charleston.
We handle the whole job rather than just selling the steel. Design, permitting, material, installation and, when the time comes, relocation. Stein is a licensed general contractor, so one company carries the project from the drawing through the final inspection.

Where We Work
Where the Warehouses Are in Spartanburg, SC
The warehouse cluster here runs county-wide along the interstate.
The I-85 corridor
Running from the Greenville County line up through Duncan, Lyman and Wellford toward the city. This is where most of the county's distribution space sits.
Greer and the BMW plant
BMW Manufacturing's Plant Spartanburg is the largest BMW Group plant in the world, assembling more than 1,500 vehicles a day, and it has been the largest US automotive exporter by value for over a decade. Its supplier base drives a lot of local warehousing.
North Spartanburg
Amazon operates a fulfillment center of roughly a million square feet in the John Dodd Road area, and adidas runs a distribution center in the county.
Permitting
Permits in Spartanburg County
Spartanburg does something worth knowing about. Permitting and review of fire sprinklers, fire alarms and other suppression equipment is handled by the Building Department, not the fire department. The city says so plainly on its own fire prevention page, and the county is arranged the same way, with sprinkler and alarm permitting sitting under Building Codes.
Inside the city, that is the City of Spartanburg Building Inspections and Permits Department. The Spartanburg Fire Department's Office of Fire Prevention still handles fire plan review policy, code compliance inspections and the list of higher-hazard occupancies, which is where a rack storage warehouse lands.
Outside the city, where nearly all the real warehouse space is, Spartanburg County Building Codes runs it. Commercial jobs need separate building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, sprinkler and alarm permits, each with its own number for scheduling inspections.
Under the International Fire Code you need a permit once a building holds more than 500 square feet of high-piled combustible storage, and high-piled means the top of the load sits above 12 feet. That covers most pallet rack projects. The code itself is the same in every jurisdiction, but the forms you file and the reviewer who reads them change from one county to the next.
- Storage with the top of the load above 12 feet, whether rack, shelving or floor-stacked piles
- More than 500 square feet of high-piled storage area
- Combustible commodities, counting the carton and the wood pallet, not just the product
- A new tenant or a change of use in an existing building
Unincorporated Spartanburg County is covered by independent fire districts, each with its own fire marshal, so the address decides who inspects. Get the walkthrough before the anchors go in, while changes are still cheap. How our permitting process works
Used Equipment
We Buy and Sell Used Rack Too
Not every job needs new steel. We keep a used yard in Charlotte and sell out of it across the country, usually at a third to half off new. Kyle Austin runs that side and can tell you what is on the ground today.
It works the other way as well. If you are closing a Spartanburg warehouse, relocating, or clearing out rack you no longer need, we buy it. Small quantities and large ones, and our crew does the removal.
Buy Used Rack
Beams, uprights and wire decks out of our own yard, inspected before they ship. Used pallet rack in Spartanburg
Sell Us Your Rack
We buy rack in every style, and we take small and large quantities. Send Kyle the type, the sizes and a rough count and he will come back with a number. Sell us your pallet rack
