Getting Rack to Greensboro
Greensboro is about ninety miles up I-85, right down the road from us. We have done a lot of work in that corridor, including 1,100 feet of double-sided cantilever rack for a building material distributor there.
Buy Used Pallet Rack in Greensboro, NC
We work the I-85 corridor constantly. One of our Greensboro jobs was 1,100 feet of double-sided cantilever rack for a building material distributor, and we have handled selective pallet rack and installation for new warehouse systems in the area.
Used rack runs a third to half off new, depending on condition. When used cannot cover a whole job, we mix in new rack for the sizes and quantities the yard cannot fill.

Where We Work
Where the Warehouses Are in Greensboro, NC
Greensboro's logistics story is air and rail rather than a port.
The airport district
Piedmont Triad International is home to the FedEx Express Mid-Atlantic air hub, which sits on roughly 175 acres, employs more than 800 people and moves about 60 million pounds of cargo a year. Honda Aircraft and HAECO are out there too.
East Greensboro
The US 70 and McConnell Road corridor. Publix built a distribution center here on 340 acres, a 400 million dollar project running about 1.8 million square feet.
The I-840 loop
The Greensboro Urban Loop closed its final gap in January 2023, opening interchange-adjacent land around the city.
Permitting
Permits in Guilford County
Building permits inside the city come from the City of Greensboro Engineering and Inspections Department. Commercial plans go to a plan coordinator and get screened for completeness before review starts.
Fire review is bundled into that commercial building review rather than run as a separate track. The city's commercial review covers plumbing, mechanical, electrical and fire together. Reviews go against the state fire code as amended by the city's own ordinances, so there are local amendments layered on top.
Outside the city, Guilford County Inspections handles permitting, including by contract for Whitsett. The Guilford County Fire Marshal covers the county except inside Greensboro and High Point city limits.
Under the International Fire Code you need a permit once a building holds more than 500 square feet of high-piled combustible storage, and high-piled means the top of the load sits above 12 feet. That covers most pallet rack projects. The code itself is the same in every jurisdiction, but the forms you file and the reviewer who reads them change from one county to the next.
- Storage with the top of the load above 12 feet, whether rack, shelving or floor-stacked piles
- More than 500 square feet of high-piled storage area
- Combustible commodities, counting the carton and the wood pallet, not just the product
- A new tenant or a change of use in an existing building
Worth knowing if your building is out toward Whitsett or Burlington, where the county reviews both halves. Get the walkthrough before the anchors go in, while changes are still cheap. How our permitting process works
Common Questions
Is fire review separate from the building permit in Greensboro?
No. Greensboro bundles fire review into the commercial building plan review rather than running it as its own track. Reviews go against the state fire code as amended by the city's ordinances.
How much can I save buying used pallet rack?
Used rack typically runs a third to half off new, depending on condition and what is available when you order. The exact number moves with what we have pulled out of warehouses recently.
Can I mix used and new rack in the same system?
Yes, as long as the sizes, load capacities and connection style are compatible. It is common on larger jobs, since the yard rarely holds every size in the quantity a full warehouse needs.
Do you install, or just deliver?
We do both. Stein is a licensed general contractor and our own crews handle installation, so the same company that sells you the rack sets it in your building.
Is used pallet rack safe?
We inspect what comes into the yard and give a condition rating on what we sell. Rack that is bent, cracked at the welds, or missing its capacity data does not go back out.
