Used Pallet Racking
Used Pallet Rack Richmond, VA
Used beams, uprights and wire decking for Richmond warehouses, at a fraction of the cost of new. We deliver and install.
Getting Rack to Richmond
Richmond is a straight run up I-85 and I-95 from Charlotte. We buy and sell used pallet racking across the country and install it, so this is well inside our normal range. Kyle can quote the rack and the freight together.
Buy Used Pallet Rack in Richmond, VA
Richmond sits about halfway up the East Coast, with roughly 45 percent of the country's population inside a day's drive. That is most of why retail and consumer-goods distribution concentrates here.
Used rack runs a third to half off new, depending on condition. We install it too, and stock new rack for whatever sizes used cannot cover.

Where We Work
Where the Warehouses Are in Richmond, VA
The city's own industrial spine runs south along the river, with the bigger parks out in the surrounding counties.
The Commerce Road and Deepwater corridor
South Richmond, about half a mile off I-95 and zoned heavy industrial. The Port of Virginia has a partnership with the city to develop this corridor as an inland logistics hub.
Richmond Marine Terminal
A 121-acre city-owned terminal on the James, leased to the Virginia Port Authority through 2056. Barge service connects it to the Port of Virginia at Norfolk.
The county parks
Meadowville in Chesterfield and White Oak in Henrico, where much of the newer large-format space has gone.
Permitting
Permits in Richmond
Richmond is an independent city and is not part of any county, which is unusual and worth getting straight before you start. Cross into Henrico, Chesterfield or Hanover and you are dealing with an entirely separate county authority.
Inside the city, building permits come from the Department of Planning and Development Review, through its Bureau of Permits and Inspections. The Fire Marshal's Office within Richmond Fire and Emergency Services administers the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code and handles plan review and inspections.
Richmond publishes a high-piled combustible storage permit as its own item, right on the Fire Marshal's operational permit list. If you are stacking above twelve feet, that is the permit that applies to you.
Under the International Fire Code you need a permit once a building holds more than 500 square feet of high-piled combustible storage, and high-piled means the top of the load sits above 12 feet. That covers most pallet rack projects. The code itself is the same in every jurisdiction, but the forms you file and the reviewer who reads them change from one county to the next.
- Storage with the top of the load above 12 feet, whether rack, shelving or floor-stacked piles
- More than 500 square feet of high-piled storage area
- Combustible commodities, counting the carton and the wood pallet, not just the product
- A new tenant or a change of use in an existing building
The two tracks run separately here. Fire construction permits for alarms and sprinklers go through Permits and Inspections, while the operational permit for high-piled storage comes from the Fire Marshal's Office. Common Questions
What permit do I need for high-piled storage in Richmond?
Richmond's Fire Marshal's Office publishes High-Piled Combustible Storage as an operational permit on its own list. Fire construction permits for sprinklers and alarms run separately, through the Bureau of Permits and Inspections.
How much can I save buying used pallet rack?
Used rack typically runs a third to half off new, depending on condition and what is available when you order. The exact number moves with what we have pulled out of warehouses recently.
Can I mix used and new rack in the same system?
Yes, as long as the sizes, load capacities and connection style are compatible. It is common on larger jobs, since the yard rarely holds every size in the quantity a full warehouse needs.
Do you install, or just deliver?
We do both. Stein is a licensed general contractor and our own crews handle installation, so the same company that sells you the rack sets it in your building.
Is used pallet rack safe?
We inspect what comes into the yard and give a condition rating on what we sell. Rack that is bent, cracked at the welds, or missing its capacity data does not go back out.
