Getting Rack to Savannah
Savannah is one of our longer runs. Freight is a real part of the number on a haul that far, so Kyle will quote the rack and the trucking together and you can decide from one figure.
Buy Used Pallet Rack in Savannah, GA
Savannah is a port market, and port markets move fast. When a container program shifts, the rack has to be standing before the freight lands.
Used rack runs a third to half off new, depending on condition. We install it too, and we can mix new rack in for whatever sizes the yard cannot cover.

Where We Work
Where the Warehouses Are in Savannah, GA
Most of the market's warehouse space is outside the City of Savannah, spread across several jurisdictions.
Garden City Terminal
The port itself, where I-95 and I-16 meet. I-516 and the Jimmy DeLoach Connector feed trucks from the terminal gates out to the parks.
Savannah Gateway Industrial Hub
Up in Rincon, Effingham County. Twenty-six hundred acres with both CSX and Norfolk Southern serving it, about twelve miles from the port.
Pooler and Port Wentworth
West and north of the city, each its own municipality with its own permitting office.
Permitting
Permits in Chatham County
Inside the city, building permits come from the City of Savannah Development Services Department, and the Savannah Fire Department's Fire Marshal's Office handles construction permits, inspections and plan review.
Savannah runs something genuinely useful here. The city holds two standing review meetings every week, a Building Plan Review on Thursday mornings and a Site Plan Review on Thursday afternoons, and the fire marshal sits in both. They are informal and open early in a project, which is the right time to bring a rack layout to them.
The Metropolitan Planning Commission is a separate joint city-county body in the site plan review chain, which surprises people coming from out of state. And most of the warehouse space is outside the city anyway, in Pooler, Port Wentworth, Garden City, or Effingham and Bryan counties, each with its own office.
Under the International Fire Code you need a permit once a building holds more than 500 square feet of high-piled combustible storage, and high-piled means the top of the load sits above 12 feet. That covers most pallet rack projects. The code itself is the same in every jurisdiction, but the forms you file and the reviewer who reads them change from one county to the next.
- Storage with the top of the load above 12 feet, whether rack, shelving or floor-stacked piles
- More than 500 square feet of high-piled storage area
- Combustible commodities, counting the carton and the wood pallet, not just the product
- A new tenant or a change of use in an existing building
Because the jurisdiction changes so often around here, we confirm which offices apply before drawings get made. Get the walkthrough before the anchors go in, while changes are still cheap. How our permitting process works
Common Questions
Who reviews a warehouse permit near Savannah?
It depends heavily on the address. The City of Savannah covers projects inside its limits, but much of the market's warehouse space is in Pooler, Port Wentworth, Garden City, or Effingham and Bryan counties, each with its own permitting office.
How much can I save buying used pallet rack?
Used rack typically runs a third to half off new, depending on condition and what is available when you order. The exact number moves with what we have pulled out of warehouses recently.
Can I mix used and new rack in the same system?
Yes, as long as the sizes, load capacities and connection style are compatible. It is common on larger jobs, since the yard rarely holds every size in the quantity a full warehouse needs.
Do you install, or just deliver?
We do both. Stein is a licensed general contractor and our own crews handle installation, so the same company that sells you the rack sets it in your building.
Is used pallet rack safe?
We inspect what comes into the yard and give a condition rating on what we sell. Rack that is bent, cracked at the welds, or missing its capacity data does not go back out.
